I focus on scuba diving, responsible tourism, off-beat destinations, cultural travel and other place-based journalism.

I try to understand the dynamics of a place and its residents by exploring its history, politics, economy and culture, and capturing it all through words and pictures.

My writing has been published in The New York Times, Scuba Diver Life, Matador Network, The Expeditioner and other outlets. I blog at Taking the Fork.

As a photographer, I specialize in capturing the underwater world and other remote places and people.

In addition to shooting some of my own stories, I’ve contributed photos to some small publications, including The World Heritage.

Scuba Diver

I’m a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor and Master Scuba Diver Trainer with multiple teaching specialties.

My passion for diving (900+ dives) has drawn me underwater throughout SE Asia, the Caribbean, Egypt, the South Pacific and California.
